Who WE Are
We are a hands-on organization dedicated to reducing the staggering numbers of homeless and abandoned cats through community education and direct street rescue initiatives. We put our profound love for all animal life into action by doing our part to reduce the astronomic number of cats and kittens suffering dismal lives on the streets and being euthanized in shelters.
We practice and promote the humane method of trap, neuter and return (TNR). Feral adult kitties are virtually impossible to socialize, therefore not adoptable. But through TNR we can reduce the population and manage feral colonies by providing them with a sustainable, humane environment.
Young kittens are taken into our rescue. They receive the medical care they need, and when old enough, are put up for adoption. Our rescued kitties remain in loving foster homes until the right forever home comes along.
We are a resource to our community in all areas of cat rescue. We provide support to individuals requesting help with feral cats by loaning traps, teaching humane trapping methods, and referrals to low cost vet clinics. We provide public education on the dire conditions these innocent animals face through informational materials and during direct interaction at adoption events. We emphasize the importance of sterilization and encourage individuals to participate in our efforts to curtail the population explosion. We offer school credit to students willing to volunteer with us, hoping to foster a life-long love of animals and commitment to their well being.
We are becoming increasingly aware of the problems facing low income families and seniors who are unable to provide the food and care their pets need. Many of these individuals are forced into making a heartbreaking decision to relinquish their pets into the public shelter system. With help from our organization and its volunteers, many of these pets have been able to remain in their homes.
Save A Kitty is a foster-based rescue in the Antelope Valley, just north of Los Angeles. All of our foster homes have cage-free environments for our kitties while they await their forever homes. Most of our fosters homes are in and around the San Fernando Valley and we are adoption partners with Petco in Granada Hills and West Hollywood. On average, we care for and/or rescue approximately 200 cats a year from living a harsh life on the street.
